As I get over myself, and start walking into the sea, I notice that what at first glance looked only brown is actually filled with gold flecks. It literally looks like I am walking on and then swimming in gold. I remember how truly rich I am.
A few days later, I meet a sweet, beautiful young woman. Her beauty is physical but it is so much more than that—it is radiating from a spirit within her. She has a huge scar in a crescent that goes almost from ear to ear and deep down her throat. I notice it, but it really nearly disappears with the beauty of her soul shining through her.
She tells me, she had cancer. The scar is from where they had to cut her open to remove the tumor and cancerous areas. She then goes on to share that she is now in remission, and that when she got the news she was in remission, she actually was a little sad.
I asked her why.
She said because when she got the cancer diagnosis, she had been in a bad relationship and was very unhappy with her life. The cancer forced her to change her life by making her prioritize herself and her well being over all the choices she had made because she thought she “should.” The cancer got her deeply in touch with “Spirit.” She told me that before the cancer she almost never smiled. She told me—smiling of course, “Cancer was SUCH a wonderful gift for me!” She told me she sees that big crescent scar along her neck as the beautiful smile that cancer brought her. And she radiates that joy and goodness from the inside out.
She is right… that scar is one of the most beautiful smiles I have ever seen… on anyone.
I remember, yet again, just how rich I truly am.
